TR 4 Heart & Soul
TR 4 Heart & Soul (Therapeutic Riding 4 Heart & Soul) is a therapeutic riding center that I volunteered at during my freshman year of college. I went there once a week to help guide the children as they rode. It was amazing to hear the stories of how far some of the riders have come since they first came to TR 4 Heart & Soul. I could see the difference that riding has made for them by the pride that they showed on their faces as they rode their horses. It was an honor to be apart of such a fulfilling mission.

Pen Pal Letters to 5th Grade Students
Junior year in ELA, I had the privilege to take part in a pen pal project. Nearly every college student in the sophomore and junior ELA classes wrote to the fifth grade students at Lincoln Elementary. While I was not in the group that led this project, I was still able to partake in it. Nearly every other week during the spring semester, I would write a letter to five different students that I was assigned to. Once the letters were sent in, my class would anxiously await for a response. This project was amazing because I was able to make a difference in the lives of the students I wrote to. I loved getting letters from my students, and I loved writing to them. It was a very fun project and I am glad that I was able to get to know my five students.
University of Mary Day of Service
Dakota Zoo
Freshman year, I volunteered at the Dakota Zoo for the Day of Service. I spent hours, alongside other students, raking leaves and picking up trash around the zoo. It was a lot of work because of the size of the zoo. Despite this, I was so impressed with how everyone worked together to get the job done. It was cold, we got tired pretty fast, but we knew that we were making a difference in the community. It was this impact that spurred us on to finish our time slot. At the end, we got to walk around the zoo and see the animals. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Christ the King Catholic Montessori School
I volunteered at Christ the King's School in Mandan, ND with fellow UMary students. During my time there, I helped to reorganize the library. Christ the King has no librarian, and the library was in disarray. By the time my peers and I had to leave, it was in much better condition. Right before we left, we were given a tour of the school by the principal. It was a very rewarding project and I am very grateful I was able to help the school in my small way.

University of Mary Ministry Retreats
Freshman Retreat
Freshman year is a time of transitions and adjustment. The University of Mary's ministry team hosts a retreat for freshman students that want a weekend to relax, grow in their faith, grow in community, and have fun. I have helped with this retreat for the past 2 years, and I have absolutely loved it! The retreat allows ample opportunities to meet the students in the freshman class and have conversations that I probably would not have had a chance to otherwise. I have led small groups, talks, I have served the freshmen by preparing meals, and I have also helped lead praise and worship during Adoration. This retreat is such an amazing experience for everyone involved.

Koinonia Retreat
The Koinonia Retreat is a student-led retreat where all UMary students are welcome to join in community. Koinonia means 'community' in Greek. Going in, the retreatants do not know what the weekend will look like. This adds greatly to the beauty of the retreat. I attended this retreat during my freshman year, and I have helped with it twice since then. While community is jump started during the Freshman Retreat, the Koinonia Retreat allows the community and friendship to really take off. I had the opportunity to work with the other student leaders as a team to prepare for this retreat. There was a lot that had to happen for the retreat to be a success. Countless meetings on the students own time is required for the retreat to be a success, and there is a definite trust in the other members on team to pull their weight. This retreat provides a lot of growth for the students leading the retreat, as well as the retreatants themselves. I learned a lot about leadership and teamwork from this retreat. I hope that I can help again in the Fall.
